VISIT OF THE PRINCE OF

WALES.

FULL TWO DAYS' PROGRAMME.

Mr. Eric Rice, hon. secretary to Committee in charge of the arrangements for the visit of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, has given 'ocal Press representa- tives, particulars of the two days' pro- gramme decided upon subject only to such variations as weather conditions may dictate. So much depends on whether the wet season begins early or late this year.

For convenience the programme is given in tabulated form.

THE FIRST DAY.

APRIL 8TH.

7.00.-The Renown will

anchor in the Harbour at this hour.

Her arrival will be greeted by a magnificent display of day- light fireworks, arranged by the Japanese community. 9.80.-H.E. the Governor will go

board the Renown to pay his official call.

At a few minutes before ten o'clock H.R.H. the Prince of Wales will leave for the shore in his barge. 10.00.-The Prince will land at Blake

Pier.

Presentations of various offi- cials and representatives will be made.

The Prince will inspect the Guard of Honour drawn up on Blake Pier.

He will proceed to the special pavilion through streets lined by naval and military detachments. This journey will be made in a most elaborate chair, decorated with Prince of Wales's Feathers, and upholstered in white and red embroidered material. Eight coolies in full array will carry the chair.

At the Pavi'ion, the Prince will receive addresses in the fol- lowing order:—

(1.)-On behalf of the entire British community of Hongkong, pre- septed by the Hon. Sir Paul Chater, C.M.G., as

one of the oldest residents, a member of the Executive Council and Chair- man of the Reception Committee. (2.)-On behalf of the Chinese com-

munity of Hongkong, presented by the Hon. Mr. Lau Chu-pak. (3.)-On behalf of Shanghai and

Treaty Ports, presented by re- presentatives from Shanghai. (4.)-On behalf of the foreign com- munities of the Colony, present- ed by Mr. W. H. Gale, Dean of of the Consular Faculty.

H.R.H. the Prince of Wales will reply.

At the end of this ceremony, which will be witnessed by a large and representative gather- ing, the Prince will re-enter his chair and, accompanied by H.E. the Governor and two or three members of his H.R.H.'s staff, will proceed to Government House by a route which will afford ample opportunity for the general public to see the Prince. The way will be by Chater Road, up Pedder Street, along Queen's Road to Garden Road, and thence to Government House. 11.30.-At about this hour, when the Prince arrives at Government House, he will inspect troops of Scouts and Girl Guides.

2.30.-His Royal Highness receives the ex-service men of the Colony and officers of the Mercantile Marine, at a garden-party at Govern- ment House.

(Incidentally, those who come within these categories are re- minded to send in their names by March 28th, at latest.) 4.30. If fine, the Prince will motor to the Polo ground for his game of polo. 8.00.-Official Banquet at Government House. The guests will number between 100 and 150. 9.30. The Prince and Staff will motor to B'ake Pier and embark on the Governor's launch to view the illumination of the Harbour. There will be a special display of fireworks from the water; this is arranged by the Japanese com- munity.

Returning to the City, the Prince will witness. from special'y erected stand, a Chinese Fish Procession.

That night, the Prince will sleep at Government House. Some members of the staff will sleep there; others wi'l be accom- modated, by invitation of the Hon. Mr. A. G. Stephen, at Bank House.

THE SECOND DAY.

APRIL 7TH.

His Royal Highness will probably drive round the Island in the morning, and upon whether or not rain has interfered possibly visit the Peak. This wil depend with the polo match on the previous day. If the Prince has not had the game of polo, and conditions are then favourable, he will have it on the second morning.

11.30. The Prince wil arrive at the Hongkong Cricket C.ub's ground, where the school children of the Colony will be assembled. The Prince has expressed a special wish to see the school children; he will walk through their ranks and proceed to the special pavi- lion. 11.45.-His Royal Highness will receive an honorary University Degree in the course of a Congregation held in the pavilion.

There will follow the laying of of the foundation stone of St. Stephen's Girl's College. The Prince will operate a mode! which will be electrically connected with the stone on the actual site.

A short address will be read by the Ven. Archdeacon Barnett and one of the pupi's will pre- sent an illuminated address in Chinese and read an English translation.

The Prince will then receive a Masonic address.

Sir Paul Chater will ask the Prince's leave to present to the Colony a statue of His Royal Highness, to be placed with those of other members of the Royal Family in Statue Square.

12.30.-Th Prince wi'l lunch with

9.30. The Prince wl proceed to a Ball given by the entire com- munity at the pavilion.

That night, the Prince and Staff will proceed on board the Renoum, in order to depart at 7 o'clock on the following morn- ing. The departure, at that hour, will be unofficial. KOWLOON

With such a full programme before him, it will be impossible for H.R.H. the Prince of Wales to set foot in Kowloon. Every endeavour will be made to include a visit to the Peak in the programme as the Prince has expressed a special desire to see how the once-barren mountain has been made habitable.

The Hongkong Automobile Association has arranged to place a certain number of cars at the disposal of the Prince and his staff during their stay.

ESCORT OF JAPANESE WARSHIPS.

The Briti h Ambassador at Tokio has notified the Hongkong Government that the Japanese Government is despatching the Third Squadron, consisting of four cruisers, to convey greetings to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales on arrival here and to escort H.M.S. Renown to Japan. The Squadron will probably arrive here a few days before the date of the Prince's visit.
